Extension Mailboxes

The UniBears Extension Mailboxes service allows people to share a single common telephone number. This service has one menu and two to nine selectable UniBears mailboxes on the same extension number. Features include:

  • Each mailbox can have a different class of UniBears service.
  • The campus telephone number and message waiting indicator (MWI) are shared. If the MWI is used it will remain on if any of the mailboxes have new messages.
  • As of December 2005, UniBears can have up to 9 mailboxes on one shared number. We have requested an enhancement with our vendor to increase that limit to 99.
  • Each person can be assigned their own mailbox. Individual mailboxes are not accessible by others if different passcodes are used for each extension mailbox and each person has their own mailbox.
  • Each mailbox may have separate greetings played depending upon the class of service. (The January 2006 version of UniBears has no recordable introductory greeting prior to the menu.)
  • Messages can be left by incoming callers, or by other users of UniBears.
Note:
  • Messages may be deposited into the mailbox before it is initialized.
  • The message waiting indication (MWI), lamp, triangle or stutter dial-tone, may remain on until there are no new messages in all associated mailboxes. You may configure which mailboxes control the MWI or have the MWI turned off for all mailboxes on the extension. Beware that if the MWI is turned off for all mailboxes people will not be notified when they have new messages unless they use another method of notification. All classes of service support pager notification. Email notification is available for mailboxes with web access.
